Program Description
The Community Integration through Co-operative Education (CICE) program at Durham College provides individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities the opportunity to enhance their academic, vocational, and personal skills.
Program Highlights:
- Core Courses: Includes interpersonal communication, job skills, self-advocacy, self-awareness, and computer skills.
- Elective Options: Students can choose from a variety of electives open to all Durham College students, such as:
- Canadian Politics
- Critical Thinking
- Environmental Citizenship
- Personality Psychology
- Social Media & Society
- Field Placements: Three separate placements provide hands-on experience working with vulnerable populations to enhance vocational skills and community involvement.
Upon successful completion, students earn an Ontario College Certificate in CICE.
Admission Requirements
- Academic Needs:
- Demonstrated academic needs requiring program modification.
- Independence:
- Sufficient independence to avoid requiring constant support.
- Education Background:
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), Ontario Secondary School Certificate (OSSC) with an Individual Education Plan (IEP), OR
- Mature Student Status with an IEP and two English credits.
- Technology Requirements:
- It is recommended that students have laptops. Specifications can be found here.
