Program Description
The Community Integration through Co-operative Education (CICE) program at Loyalist College is designed for individuals with intellectual disabilities and significant learning challenges who want to pursue post-secondary education and experience college life.
Key features of the program include:
- Customized Learning: Students choose an area of concentration and take modified courses each semester.
- Core Courses: Programming includes numeracy, communication, job readiness, computer skills, and workplace safety.
- Field Placements: Opportunities to develop or enhance vocational skills and community involvement.
This program helps students transition to volunteer or paid employment, enabling them to function more independently and contribute meaningfully to their community.
Admission Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Hold an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD/OSSGD), Ontario Secondary School Certificate (OSSC), or be 19 years of age or older.
- Demonstrate academic needs requiring curriculum modification for success.
- Attend a program orientation session and campus tour.
- Participate in an admission interview to assess program suitability, interests, and personal goals.
- Provide their own transportation to and from the college and field placements.
- Be willing to participate fully in the program.
- Identify the types of support they require (e.g., note-taking, job placement support).
- Provide a confidential reference from a non-family individual.
